certified ayruveda practitioner
Ayurveda combines yoga, meditation, diet, and lifestyle to create a powerful healing modality that I have experienced and continue to experience first-hand.
I have been a massage therapist for 20 years now, and I honestly can’t remember what actually drew me to this profession. From a young age I remember having a strong desire to help people. My mother worked hard to support my brother and me, by herself, and at the end of her long work days I’d give her foot rubs. Then later, as an athlete (gymnast & martial artist), I’d always loved receiving massages and quickly learned, first hand, its therapeutic benefits. As I seem to have always been drawn to natural healing sciences, it was a natural progression to pursue massage therapy. Later, during a time in my life when I was experiencing great challenges, I discovered yoga. After my first class I felt different, calmer, and was intrigued to learn more about this ancient healing practice. After a few years as a dedicated yoga student, I became a certified teacher. Sharing this healing, is my Dharma, my life’s purpose, and it feels like something I have to do. When I became pregnant with my daughter, I discovered a new love. You’re probably thinking it was her. Nope! It was food. That powerful maternal love drove me to eat the best nutritious foods to build the best human being possible.
This love for yoga, in combination with an awareness of food being medicine, led me to the sister science of Ayurveda, a word directly translating to “the science of life.” Ayurveda tied everything together. I found this science during a battle with a serious illness. I exhausted my options within western medicine and was told my condition was chronic and would not improve; so I turned to Eastern modalities once again. I was stunned at the time the Ayurvedic doctor spent with me and the support I felt from him. He outlined a diet and lifestyle plan, put me on a protocol of herbs, and within a couple of weeks my condition improved exponentially. I fell to my knees in gratitude when I received the news that I was better, after being told so many times that I wouldn’t be. As I studied further, I discovered SCU (Southern California University of Health Sciences), from wherein I received my practitioner certification. Ayurveda encompasses all of the healing modalities of yoga, meditation, diet, and lifestyle– and I experienced its healing power first hand. We are all healing from something in our lives, and Ayurveda is an accessible tool that can aid the ongoing tumultuous process that is life.
